Keynotes
Anthony K. H. Tung is currently a Professor in the Department of Computer Science, National University of Singapore (NUS). He received both his B.Sc.(2nd Class Honour) and M.Sc. in computer sciences from the National University of Singapore in 1997 and 1998 respectively. In 2001, he receives the Ph.D. in computer sciences from Simon Fraser University (SFU).
Dr. Josiah Poon is a pioneering researcher bridging the gap between information technology and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). With qualifications including a BSc(Hons) from Manchester, MSc from Deakin, and PhD from Sydney, he has been at the University of Sydney since 2001.
His groundbreaking work applies data mining and computational algorithms to analyze herb interactions in TCM, using principles of complementarity to discover the most effective treatment combinations. Through collaborations with hospitals in Beijing and research centers in Shanghai, his work has significantly improved patient treatments and helped quantify the effectiveness of traditional medicines.
Dr. Poon is passionate about demonstrating the scientific merit of Eastern medicine through rigorous IT analysis, recognizing both Western and Eastern approaches as equally valid paths to healing. He co-directs ACCLAIM (Analytical and Clinical Cooperative Laboratory for Integrative Medicine), a joint big-data research lab with the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
His research interests span health informatics, natural language processing, and causal relation extraction. He teaches courses ranging from foundations of information technology to health system data standards, supervising research students in medical NLP, document comprehension, and financial machine intelligence.
Vincent Wong received his B.Sc. (with distinction) degree from the University of Manitoba in 1994, M.A.Sc. degree from the University of Waterloo in 1996, and Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 2000, all in electrical engineering. From 2000 – 2001, he was a systems engineer at PMC-Sierra Inc. (now Microchip Technology Inc.). In 2002, he joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of British Columbia, where he is currently a Professor. His research areas include wireless communication systems, mobile networking, Internet of things, smart grid, and energy systems. Dr. Wong is the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications. He has served as an Area Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Communications and IEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society, an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing and IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, and a guest editor of the IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, IEEE Wireless Communications, and IEEE Internet of Things Journal. He has served as a General Chair of the IEEE INFOCOM 2024. Dr. Wong is an IEEE Vehicular Technology Society Distinguished Lecturer (2023 – 2027) and was an IEEE Communications Society Distinguished Lecturer (2019 – 2020). He received the 2022 Best Paper Award from IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, and Best Paper Awards at the IEEE ICC 2022 and IEEE GLOBECOM 2020. He has served as the Chair of the IEEE Vancouver Joint Communications Chapter and the IEEE Communications Society Emerging Technical Subcommittee on Smart Grid Communications. Dr. Wong is a Fellow of the IEEE, Canadian Academy of Engineering, and the Engineering Institute of Canada.
Prof. John C.S. Lui is a distinguished computer scientist and the Choh-Ming Li Chair Professor in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from UCLA and began his career at IBM Laboratory working on file systems and parallel I/O architectures before joining CUHK.
As a Fellow of both ACM and IEEE, Croucher Senior Research Fellow, and Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering, Prof. Lui leads the Advanced Networking and System Research Laboratory (ANSRLab). His research spans quantum Internet, online machine learning (multi-armed bandits, reinforcement learning), network science and economics, cybersecurity, and large-scale data analytics.
Prof. Lui has received numerous accolades including best paper awards at premier conferences (KDD, INFOCOM, RecSys, ICDE) and the CUHK Faculty of Engineering Research Excellence Award. He served as Associate Dean of Research (2014-2018) and Department Chairman (2005-2011), receiving multiple teaching awards including the Vice-Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award.
A prominent figure in the academic community, he currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of POMACS and senior editor of IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, while maintaining editorial roles across multiple top-tier journals. He was Chair of ACM SIGMETRICS (2011-2015) and has been a visiting professor at UCLA, Columbia, University of Maryland, Purdue, UMass Amherst, and University of Turin.
Balancing academic excellence with industry engagement, Prof. Lui actively consults to facilitate technology transfer and identify relevant research problems.
