Historic landmarks include the Old Saigon post office, Notre Dame Cathedral, Opera House, Dong Khoi street and the famous Ben Thanh market. Sample lunch at a very nice restaurant.
In the afternoon, visit the Reunifcation Palace then the War Remnants Museum which contains a comprehensive and somewhat distressing array of documents and photos about the long Vietnam-American War. Be aware that your visit to the museum will provoke strong emotions. Round off your day with a visit to the Ben Thanh market. Be sure to use your bargaining skills to get the best price on anything you buy there. Back to the hotel. Service end.

08.00: Picking up at your hotel then we will leave the city by private vehicle to visit the amazing tunnel network of Cu Chi. This incredible system, covering almost 250km in length was shelter to over 16,000 Vietcong guerrillas during the wars. Initially started in 1948 to provide shelter against the French air and ground sweeps, the network went on to serve as communication routes, storage facilities, hospitals and living quarters for Vietnamese fighters throughout the American war.  If you are interested (and game) you can even descend into the tunnels to learn more about the harsh conditions faced by Vietcong guerrillas who lived there. Return to the city centre for lunch at a local restaurant.

Today we depart from Saigon to explore Ben Tre in the Mekong delta. Upon arrival at Ben Tre town, take a motor boat trip around Ben Tre river with several stops along the way to visit a brick kiln where you can see how bricks are made, watch coconut fruit processing and visit some families in Cai Son and Thanh Nhon channels who make sleeping mats. Enjoy fresh fruit and green tea while relaxing at a local house. We then continue the trip by bicycle or by taking a motor cart passing by rice fields and vegetable gardens. Lunch at a local house. In the afternoon, take a rowboat (sampan) along small channels to a rice processing workshop and then visit an ancient house. Back to the main road for a transfer to Saigon in the late afternoon.
